Baylor Scott & White Health Plan recently announced that they will be leaving both the Texas Medicaid program and the ACA Marketplace. Their Medicaid exit becomes effective August 31, 2026, and their ACA Marketplace plans will end December 31, 2026.

This is a major change that will impact thousands of families across Texas who currently rely on this insurer for their health coverage.

Even though the health plan is leaving, it’s important to understand that Baylor Scott & White hospitals and clinics are not going anywhere. They will continue accepting other insurance plans, so members will still be able to keep their doctors — they’ll just need to switch to a different insurance company.

This decision is part of a larger trend we’ve been seeing in the industry. Some insurance companies are stepping away from government programs because of rising costs, lower reimbursements, and the financial challenges of staying profitable in the ACA Marketplace.

For members, the key is to stay informed and make sure they choose a new plan before their coverage ends. Waiting too long could lead to a gap in coverage, and nobody wants that.

If you or someone you know is currently enrolled with Baylor Scott & White Health Plan, now is the time to start exploring other options. There are still many strong carriers in Texas offering competitive plans, and switching early ensures a smooth transition.
